The KUJmf Society has signed a deposition agreement with the Hagfors Industry and Railway Museum concerning the diesel engine NKlJ 4. This diesel engine has a past as the SJ Z4tu 316 in traffic on the former KURJ Railway. It was delivered in 1952 to the Swedish State Railways (SJ) and was regauged in 1961 from 891 mm to 1093 mm gauge to initiate the motorization of the former KURJ Railway together with other Z4tu diesel engines. After the phasing-out of the traffic by the Swedish State Railways it was used from 1966 by the private mining company Riddarhytte AB in their own traffic between Riddarhyttan and Krampen. After that the Z4tu 316 came to the Nordmark-Klarälvens Railways (NKlJ) where it was regauged to 891 mm and registered as the NKlJ 4. Now this diesel engine is facing restoration to its earlier identity as the SJ Z4tu 316 and after that it will return to Köping.
This diesel engine with its eventful history represents both the SJ period on the KURJ Railway, the private traffic of Riddarhytte AB, and of course the goods traffic on the railway, all missing in our railway museum until now. It's also an important part of the effort to develop our railway museum into a vintage railway.
The diesel engine will of course be regauged to 1093 mm. This includes pressing the wheel discs further out on the axles and moving the brakes. The diesel engine will also be repainted in its original colour scheme and be equipped with the standard Swedish narrow gauge couplers.
Despite the recent grants to the KUJmf Society of 50,000 SEK and 100,000 SEK respectively earmarked for this task we still need a lot of money. Therefore we continue this fundraising activity to collect the remaining 61,000 SEK. It is our hope that some of this will be covered by further grants.
Any interested individual may also contribute by donating a sum of his or her choice. Every donation counts! If you want to contribute you can contact us at info@kujmf.se for further instructions. Every donor will be noted and announced in a suitable manner. The KUJmf Society hopes that many will contribute to this very important project and we thank you in advance.
